#2169 Treasure Hunt!

Posted by Acis on 03 July 2014 - 07:44 AM

If anyone wants to do this in a team, I'm game. I'll list some pros and cons here so you can decide if our weaknesses and strengths compliment each other so that we may form an efficient and well balanced team.

- Poor grasp of the English language.
- Poor attention span
- Somewhat poor memory
- Really poor attention span because it's Magic The Gathering spoiler season where they show new cards
- May ban you if I get frustrated
- Drawn to the wrong conclusion quickly and will defend those conclusions to the death.
- Despite claiming otherwise: never left ACME, ever. Except for the tunnel that connects to ACME. So poor grasp of where things are at on the map
- The contest host and creator called me a jerkhouse in this topic. Scroll up it's right there
- May or may not backstab you to claim all the prizes after doing zero work
- Somewhat poor memory

- Can fly
- Can ban competitors
- Can burglarise anything

- If Tarq reads that stuff above this section then I'm in trouble

Only the horse of Mikill9 survived the 3rd Horse Race.

The race ended with a chaotic party at the winner podium. Racing members had let out the frustration on their lost horse at the Hippodrom of Astoria. But everyone was in good spirits and the racing organization hopes that all had fun

Posted by Acis on 14 October 2014 - 10:09 AM

Has a something been pestering you lately?

Things coming into places where they do not belong?

Are you finding empty chests, half destroyed buildings and a chat full of verbal diarrhea?

You must have come across an unsupervised child, that is probably being raised by the youtube celebrities and minecraft chat.

Well no worries, I remove children for free, just post their name in this topic and they will be gone within 48 hours!

#2167 Treasure Hunt!

Posted by Mr Fenderson on 03 July 2014 - 04:35 AM

Attached File  tumblr_lbku5gtUyg1qcf7tn.gif   76.83KB   0 downloadsHello Minecarts!

So, I have been thinking about setting up a scavenger/treasure hunt on the Pure server. This competition will be open to all and it will involve the deciphering of clues, the finding of things, the going to places, and the shaking your head at the inanity of any puns, portmanteaus or spoonerisms I will inflict on you during said competition.

That's right. COMPOOTISHUN. Here are the basics I have come up so far:

  • The competition will start at sometime in the near future at a certain point when the first clue will be announced LIVE in game. There will probably be cake.
  • You can enter the game with a PARTNER or go SOLO. Duos will share the prize.
  • There will be ten CLUES and ten PUZZLES/TASKS in ten LOCATIONS. Each clue will lead you to the next loaction. Each puzzle/task will give you one number in an X,Y,Z cooridinate. When you have all ten coordinate numbers, you will have the location of the TREASURE. Run, god damn it!
  • The locations will be in popular areas on the Pure server. The locations/whereabouts will be unknown to anyone but myself.

Now, as for prizes, I'm not sure what you guys would want or what I have to give. I was thinking of a sweepstakes, where every participant pays to enter and the winner takes all. This will also be supplemented with a bunch of stuff that I can think of. If this is an unpopular idea I'll have to think of more stuff.

Thanks to Jellomix for giving me ideas on this, AnToast for a generous book donation and Acis for calling the words that come from my mouth and fingers 'Crypto-Bullshit'. What a jerkhouse.

Let me know if you're into this, Mineshafts!

#1313 Thank you!

Posted by Acis on 24 April 2014 - 07:09 AM

As a lot of you know, yesterday some kids griefed our server and did it in an admittedly clever way, a lot of spawn was covered in water, lava and a lot of blocks were destroyed at random.

Most of this avoided a part of our anti grief prevention.

However! I only had to ask in chat once for help, and everyone on the server wanted to help out!

So with some team effort (and a clever find on Jello's part) we cleaned up spawn in record time, fixing all lava and water.

This shows to me that we have a great community, something other servers could only wish for. With people like you we can get trough anything!

There's now a tiny monument near the spawn market that marks our quick cleanup and team effort  :D

Some practical info in the form of an Q&A though:

Q: I still found a griefed block!
A: Try to fix it yourself it it's only minor / something easily fixed. There's still going to be a few missing blocks. If you can't fix it call in a moderator or admin to patch it up.

Q: building X is still simultaneously soaked and on fire, what do?
A: Besides the laws of common sense being broken here, the best option is to call one of the moderation crew, they can fix it up pretty quickly.

Q: My chestshop signs are messed up, or my chests are locked and I can't acces them!
A: unfortunate side effect of this whole ordeal, Boot did try and lock up most chests for theft prevention though so just ask a moderator to remove the locks now in place. You'll have to re-do any shop signs that were broken though.

Q: Will this griefing stuff happen again?
A: Although I'd like to say no, something like this might happen again one day. After all, kids (and teens) are hormonal, moody, grumpy and burdened with a lot of spare time. We have so many great members that can fix this faster than it can be broken though, so there's that  :D

Q: I still have a question that wasn't asked here
A: Fire away in the comments!

Thanks again for helping out all!

#1204 Gold farm mechanics

Posted by Kino on 30 March 2014 - 01:17 PM

This article explains the mechanics behind the gold farm on pure, and some general mechanics associated with gold farming in minecraft.Hello fellow Minecraftians,

In this article I’d like to explain the mechanics surrounding the gold farm I build on the Pure and Monarch server.

First of all, how does one farm gold?
Well as some of you might know Zombie Pigman have a chance of dropping gold nuggets when they die. So it'll have to be some sort of zombie pigman farm.

But how do you get enough pigman together for the farm to be efficient?
You can build a “common” mob farm in the nether, so pigman will spawn naturally in it, the downside of this is the mob cap. (if there are too many mobs around, no new ones will spawn)
A more efficient way is building it in the overworld using nether portals. Every portal block (the purple field inside the obsidian frame) has a chance of spawning a Zombie Pigman. The portal blocks don’t check for the amount of mobs in the area. This allows a greater build up of Zombie Pigman and thus is more efficient.

What size should you use?
There are a few things to take into account when thinking about the size. Sure, more portal blocks means more Pigman will spawn. The problem is mobs stop moving if they are too far away from a player (with default settings this is 32 blocks).
A farm stretching 200x200 blocks wouldn’t be much faster than a farm stretching 64x64 blocks. Also take into account that large amount of portals will create lag, so don’t overdo it!
The gold farm i designed is 49x49 blocks. The hight should always be the max. portal hight (23 blocks including both obsidian blocks).
To minimize obsidian use, you can use portals size 23x23 only, i didn't do so to keep things symmetrical.

Where should you place the kill room?
The kill room should be very close to the bottom level of the portals. The reason for this is to get the most Pigman to move when you standing in the kill room.Second, Pigman get angry when you hit one of them, so you should make sure all angry Pigman run straight into the mob transportation system (explained later), so they don’t keep running around in the farm, but get killed asap instead. In my design, the kill room is in the center of all the portals, very close to the bottom of the portals.

How do you get the mobs from the portals to the kill room?
To get the Pigman to move out of the portals, place signs (or trap doors) allong the bottom blocks of the portals.

Underneath the portals is a water system, all spots have running water, and they all run into the center of the farm.
On every side of the kill room is an entrance where the Pigman enter the mob elevators. (basically a tunnel upwards with water and signs). On top of the elevators is a connection platform where all elevators are directed to the same block.
This block should be the start of their drop down (to kill drop them 23+ blocks, to damage drop them 21 blocks).

Pigman are dangerous creatures, especially if they have full health. So you must make sure no pigman can escape the farm, or you’ll be in a lot of trouble. That’s why you should first build the entire farm, double check if there is no way for the pigman to get out (including the baby pigman), before you light up all the portals!

About the design:
The design I’ve come up with has 72 nether portals, each one 9x23 blocks (including the obsidian border). Every portal has 7x21=147 portal blocks (the purple blocks in the middle) so in total there are 10584 portal blocks. I used 6 mob elevators (4 normal elevators and 2 baby elevators). Also a switch controls two options: damage mode (xp farm) and kill mode (afk farm).
The design has portals with 9x23 size because of the water mechanics, since water flows 8 blocks it makes the transportation system a lot easier. Finally the design also allows you to switch between afk and damage mode. The trick is to make the elevators just high enough so you can put the kill room at the bottom level of the portals.

If you like to see one in action, the gold farm on the Pure server is the easiest one to check out (since the Monarch farm is underground and protected by towny).
To check it out, got to the Pure server and visit my base (/res tp KinoShop), the farm is upstairs!

For more information, contact Kino :)

I've started a Let's Play series on single player vanilla minecraft, in this series I'm building a Gold/XP farm using these principles. The design is a little different to make it more efficient and increase the speed.

#744 On the topic of Verruk.

Posted by DaisyDigs on 02 March 2014 - 03:49 AM

This seems worthy of consideration. Allow me to throw my unsolicited two cents in. As an educator, I know that there are sometimes students... Kids... Young people... Who are just ahead of the curve. They are more polite, more mature and have more adult sensibilities than their peers. Imagine being this sort of young person. You do everything right. You are everything adults SAY they appreciate and admire, and yet you are chronologically not up to par. This leaves you out in the cold. I've never had the privilege of meeting this young man, but he seems to be the real deal. Something I have seen done in the past is that someone known and established would step up to the plate and "sponsor" a young person like this. By this I mean they say, "Hey! I stand by this kid. So much so that I am willing to say that I put my membership here on the line."

Ask yourself this... What happens to young people like this without the support of adults in their lives? Isn't there room for sensible flexibility on a matter like this? I hope you will reconsider. :)

#4592 Adult Minecraft Server

Posted by JELLOMIX on 13 January 2017 - 01:04 PM

Ahh Minecraft, what a cruel mistress she can be. Truly a game that can consume hour upon hour of your life, mercilessly squelching any hopes of being productive in the real world. If you’re like me, then chances are you receive a massive amount of enjoyment from stepping back and seeing your projects and creations come to fruition. I find that enjoyment alone solace for the inexorable amount of time I’ve put into this silly little game. Is that alone the only reason I should be feeling guilty about playing Minecraft for days on end? There’s always the argument that Minecraft itself is a game for children, and isn’t even crafted with adults in mind. If you ask me, that’s a load of crap! It is the simple formula that makes the game so great that also is what draws 18+ Minecraft players into the deep dark mines and ancient hidden temples.Adult Minecraft servers have even become extremely popular in the last few years, as more and more adults succumb to the addiction. Don’t feel guilty my friends, embrace your inner demons; you know, the ones that say, “I really should do the dishes but I need to place this one last row of blocks”. Give in to temptation, and know that there is a “cure” to your curse. And you’ve found your cure, that is a hearty regiment of playing Minecraft online with a bunch of other like-minded adults. Welcome to Better in Game (BIG) and Banana S’mores, two 18+ Minecraft servers joined together to offer adults the perfect environment to spend their precious little free time. So kill one more chicken, go down one more mineshaft, build one more tower, and get explosively violated by one more creeper adult Minecraft player! Whether this is your first online Minecraft server (if so, lucky find) or you’re a wayward server nomad looking for a place for drama-free Minecraft experience. Welcome to Banana S’mores and Better in Game; you’re an adult, you’ve earned this.
Adults Play Minecraft 2

Adult Minecraft Player

Between children of our own, bills, laundry, work, and hangovers it can be hard to find any free time to escape to the realm of Minecraft. But at BIG and Banana S’mores, we know that your rare moments of free time should be allocated to a server that is drama free. While I know as well as the next person that adults can be just as dramatic as children, take my word when I tell you that taking people under 18 out of the mix in online Minecraft saves many headaches. Other than negating the level of drama both servers meet other criteria that adults crave such as no map resets, no griefing (the act of destroying other players work and/or harassing them), and the ability to leave work for months on end and know that it won’t be disturbed. For a more in-depth look at the rules and policies of Banana S’mores and Better in Game click here or here. If these sound like appealing policies to you, then the next step is signing up on either site, registering your account via e-mail, and getting yourself in game pronto!
Adults Play Minecraft 1

No Griefing

The majority of adults just want to get along in harmonious Minecraft bliss. This is why our anti-griefing policy is strictly enforced. If any destruction of property or harassment occurs, our team of moderators is there to reset any damage and ban the offending party. Unlike some other servers that do temporary bans for griefing, a ban for griefing here is usually a done deal. After all, if a player is breaking the anti-griefing rule it’s usually a sign that they are immature and are likely under 18 or didn’t take the time to read and are likely under 18 and therefore breaking two rules. That being said, we also understand that as an adult sometimes the best way to get some relief after a long day of work is to just sword the crap out of someone. For this very reason BIG and Banana S’mores host a variety of servers including our Famine server, which includes a variety of mini-games ranging from hunger games and paintball to hockey and spleef (not as gross as it sounds). So if you’ve got a vendetta against your friend and have been looking for a way to settle things, Banana S’mores and BIG have a place you can duke it out in one of the dozens of custom created maps. Just remember the term griefing doesn’t just apply to the destruction of other players work, but in general, it means don’t be a dick to other players.
2015 07 24 10.26.00

No Map Reset or Penalty for Inactivity

This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. Better in Game and Banana S’mores are the first servers I’ve played on that don’t systematically destroy my work every six months. While it may be all hunky dory for children to start with a clean slate every six months, most adults aren’t this fickle and don’t bore as easily or as quickly. On a previous server I played on was in constant fear that month of work would be wiped away at any second. This is my third year playing on the Better in Game Pure server, and I still get to see all of the work I’ve done over the years there and intact. Another benefit to playing on Banana S’mores and BIG, is the fact that there are no penalties for inactivity. Some servers will remove your builds if you don’t play for several weeks. From the perspective of an adult Minecraft player, this is absurd. Things happen when you’re an adult that are out of our control, things that might keep you from playing for months on end. Why should someone be penalized because life is crazy and chaotic? That’s not the way here. Here you can expect a stable environment where months of work doesn’t get dashed on a whim.
Adults Play Minecraft 4

Yes, this is the rule of law on the servers. While I know there are is definitely a 16-year-old out there that is more mature than 21-year-old, the fact of the matter is 18 is a logical cut-off year to capture an entirely adult audience. The next question is usually, “how do you know if the players are over 18?” The answer is surprisingly simple, children always give themselves away through juvenile activities, rule-breaking, and general asshattery. I’m sure that there may be someone out there playing on either Better in Game of Banana S’mores that’s a few months south of proper, but if we haven’t been able to tell that they were underage that simply means they were obeying the rules, behaving properly, and creating an adult environment. Besides that, the majority of server conversations are about craft beer, food recipes, work and general ‘boring adult stuff’, so most children would lose interest anyway.
Adults Play Minecraft 3

So there you have it; welcome to your new adult Minecraft server. You’re welcome here whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned ender dragon slaying machine, Better in Game and Banana S’mores have a server that’s right for you. If you’re a survival guru looking for a vanilla experience, then set your sights on Dream or Pure. If you’re hankering for a little competition check out the Famine server. If you’re all about the creative acumen of Minecraft, then the Inspired or Creative servers will be right up your alley. If you want to start a city of your own in a server with skills and a robust feature-heavy set of plugins, then Monarch server is your cup of tea. Not afraid of heights? Check out the Skyblock server, where you can build explore, and risk death constantly. Not only is there a diverse selection of servers to choose from, but these servers all have one thing in common; they all are shared by a unique group of adults who have found Minecraft an ideal replacement for busting out the Legos. With shared chat between all servers you’ll always be in touch with all the other players of BIG and Banana S’mores, even when you’re a world apart. So release your guilt and embrace the way of the pickaxe! You’re an adult who plays Minecraft, and now you have a home, better get to work, there’s diamonds in them hills!
